Node.js Upgrade & EOL Migration
End-of-life versions don't get fixes. Node2Shell made that a cost, not a technicality.

What this is
The Node2Shell release fixed 22, 24 and 26. It did not fix Node 20 and older, 23 or 25, which are end of life and stay affected. If your application runs on one of those, upgrading is the only route. The work itself is usually less frightening than it sounds when it's done in the right order: pin the versions, update dependencies, deal with native modules, test on staging, roll out one service at a time and keep the last working image ready.
Who this is for
- Teams on Node 16, 18 or 20 who have postponed the upgrade several times
- Companies on odd-numbered releases like 23 or 25, which are now past support
- Agencies maintaining several client Node projects on different versions
- Businesses with a Node app nobody on the current team built
What problem this solves
If two or more of these sound familiar, it is worth a conversation.
No fix is coming for your version
Moving to a supported line is the only way to receive security patches.
A growing gap between versions
Each postponement adds another major version to cross. Smaller steps are cheaper than one big jump.
Native modules that break
Image processing, database drivers and anything compiled usually need rebuilds or replacements on a new runtime.
Environment drift
Local, CI and production on three different Node versions. We pin them to one so what you test is what you ship.
What Nimbryx actually builds
Every one of these is built around how your team already works.
Upgrade plan
Target version chosen against your dependencies and hosting, with the steps in order.
Dependency modernisation
Packages updated or replaced, lockfiles cleaned, abandoned libraries retired.
Native module fixes
Rebuilds, version bumps or swaps for modules that don't run on the target.
CI & container updates
Dockerfiles, base images, CI runners and engines fields aligned and rebuilt.
Test and performance checks
Test suite run at each step, plus a look at memory and response times, since runtime changes can shift both.
Staged rollout with rollback
One service at a time and the previous image kept for a quick return.
How this typically works
From the first conversation to a working system.
Step 1
Assess
Versions, dependencies, tests and risks. You get an honest picture of effort.
Step 2
Quote
Fixed scope and price in writing before work starts.
Step 3
Upgrade
Done on a branch with staging deployments you can click through.
Step 4
Release
Rolled out in stages, monitored, then documented for your team.
The stack we’d likely use
Mature, well-supported tools. The final choice depends on your project, and we explain it before we start.
- Node.js 22, 24, 26
- TypeScript
- Express
- Next.js
- Docker
- GitHub Actions
- npm

An honest note
When this isn't the right call
If the app has no tests, hasn't changed in years and is due for a rewrite anyway, upgrading may cost nearly as much as rebuilding. We'll show both options after the assessment and let the numbers decide.
Not sure which side of the line you’re on? Ask us and we’ll say so.
Which Node.js version should we move to?
Usually the latest supported even-numbered line your dependencies allow, such as 22 or 24. We confirm after checking your packages.
Can we skip versions?
Sometimes. Large gaps are safer in steps, with tests between them. We decide after the assessment.
Will the upgrade change how our app behaves?
It shouldn't. We test the main flows and compare results, and we flag any behavioural changes before launch.
Do you handle the hosting changes too?
Yes. We update Docker images, PM2 or Nginx setups and CI pipelines as part of the work.
