The problem
The lab was running sample tracking on a combination of paper registers and Excel sheets maintained by front desk staff. Internal audits kept flagging inconsistencies between intake records and test results. With ISO 15189 accreditation under consideration, the manual system had become a liability — not just an inconvenience.
What we built
A custom web-based Lab Information Management System (LIMS): sample intake with barcode assignment, stage-by-stage tracking through collection and testing, automated report generation as PDF, and a full audit log for every record state change. Admin dashboard for daily turnaround tracking.
What it includes
Outcome
Zero audit failures in two consecutive internal audit cycles post-deployment. Sample-to-report turnaround time reduced by roughly 55%. The front desk team described it as 'the first system that matches how the lab actually works'.
Common questions
Is the LIMS suitable for NABL or ISO 15189 accreditation?
The audit trail we build by default — every sample state change, who actioned it, timestamp — is designed to satisfy ISO 15189 technical requirement 5.8 (result reporting) and 5.9 (quality assurance). We've had clients go through NABL accreditation with this system. The specific checklist is worth reviewing during scoping to ensure all requirements are covered.
Can the LIMS connect to lab analysers and report directly from equipment?
Yes, for equipment that supports HL7 or ASTM LIS interface (most modern analysers do). We build the middleware to receive result data from the analyser and attach it to the relevant sample record automatically — removing manual result entry.
